Steven Gerrard – The Story

Mr. Liverpool has left his beloved club and moved onto a new career at Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS. This very inspirational documentary looks at Stevens Liverpool career.

There is a focus in the documentary on how he single handedly drove Liverpool to unlikely Champions League success in the 2005 final against A.C. Milan. With Liverpool 3 -0 down at half time, Steven grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and in 6 unforgettable second half minutes scored a goal and won a penalty to drag the game back to 3 – 3. Liverpool then went on to win the game on penalties and win their first Champions league trophy in 20 years.

In my opinion, Steven is one of England’s finest players ever. Not only for his playing ability, which was brilliant, he could play in any position and still be top class, but for his character and loyalty to Liverpool over a period of some 18 years as a professional footballer.

“Is he the best in the world? He might not get the attention of Messi and Ronaldo but yes, I think he just might be. He has great passing ability, can tackle and scores goals, but most importantly he gives the players around him confidence and belief. You can’t learn that – players like him are just born with that presence.”

Despite all of Stevens longevity and success, it is one of the great mysteries of football that in the generation of John Terry, David Beckham, Frank Lampard and Michael Owen that England failed so miserably at virtually every tournament. If there is one question mark about Steven Gerrard’s career, that must be something he thinks about long, hard and often.

Whilst the statistics on Gerrard’s  career are really impressive:

708 games for Liverpool – 186 goals : 114 games for England – 21 goals

As well as 2 FA Cup winner medals in 2001 and 2006, 3 Football league Cup Winner medals in 2001, 2003 and 2012. The UEFA Champions League success in 2005, one can’t help but wonder if he had played for Manchester United under Alex Ferguson how much greater that haul would have been?? For both of them!!
