Here is an extract from a very interesting perspective on England’s defeat at the hands of Germany from Mick Rathbone.

As the current England squad is now ‘getting on a bit’, the majority will probably not make it to the next world cup.  Should Capello start looking to the future now?  There are players such as Joe Hart, Michael Dawson , Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshire who are all playing Premier League football, shall these players get the opportunities now, not just for friendlies but for the big games (Euro qualifiers) and should Capello start culling the older big name disappointments?

If Lampard’s goal was given against Germany, do you think England could have gone on to win the game?  Although Germany were the best team throughout the game, For 15 minutes towards the end of the first half England where like a runaway train.  Leading up to and after Upson scored, England where playing like they do in the Premier League, fast flowing football and the Germans could not handle it.  If Lampard’s goal did count then England might  have continued to have the momentum and the Germans would have been deflated having given away a two goal lead.

I am sure we have all equally enjoyed and endured watching England play in this World Cup. As have fans of other countries. I was very fortunate to watch England play Colombia in the final group game in the 1998 World Cup in France.
